This pipestone pendant was excavated from a bell shaped pit feature at the Radio Lane site in Cowley County. The site was a large Great Bend aspect village site. Kansas Historical Society archeologists and crew excavated there during a Phase IV archeological investigation. The soft fine grain pipestone enabled the carver to shape and smooth the piece and then incise notches around the edges and carve a series of holes across one surface. The reverse side has incised lines.
