These two writs of arrest relate to the charge against Joseph Chafin for taking Native American property in 1859 in the Kansas Territory. The writs were issued by the Third District Court in Fort Scott, Kansas Territory. Chafin was arrested by U. S. Marshal Philip J. Colby on November 13, 1859. During the Kansas territorial period, the increase of settlers led to conflict with indigenous American tribes relocated to the area by the United States government.
