These legal writs relate to the case of the United States vs. John F. Carpenter for contempt. Carpenter was accused of failing to serve as a juror for the Second District Court in Lecompton on November 7, 1859. On May 29, 1860 a judgement of ten dollars plus court expenses, a total of $24.40, was issued for the crime.
