These legal documents relate to the case of the United States vs. James Brooke for contempt. The documents, issued by the U. S. District Court, Kansas Territory, Second District, claim Brooke was summoned to act as a juror for the court on May 4, 1857 in Lecompton but failed to appear. Brooke was issued a fine of ten dollars plus court costs on May 17, 1859. The U. S. marshal states no property could be found to levy for the debt.
