This writ of scire facias was issued on July 16, 1859 by the United States District Court, Kansas Territory, Second District in Lecompton for John Bentley. The writ reports Bentley was summoned to act as a juror for the Second District Court but failed to appear on May 13, 1859. A writ of scire facias is a judicial writ ordering a defendant to appear in court and explain why a judgement, in this case a fine of fifty dollars, should not be enforced.
