This case file contains a subpoena, indictment, and warrant related to the charge against Richard Ballard for providing whiskey, brandy, and gin to the Miami tribe in Linn County, Kansas Territory between June 1, 1857 and August 1, 1857. Ballard was indicted by the Third District Court of the Kansas Territory in Fort Scott during the court's October session. An arrest warrant for Ballard was executed successfully on June 9, 1859. Selling liquor on Native American lands was illegal in the United States from 1832-1953.
