This case file contains three writs related to the charge of contempt against T. J. Bailey (Baily) for failing to appear as a grand juror for the Second District Court in Lecompton, Kansas Territory on October 5, 1857. The writs order Bailey to appear during the next court term and explain his absence, with a possible fine of ten dollars if conditions for his absence were not met. The first two writs, issued in March and July of 1859, were returned undelivered. The final writ, issued in March of 1860, was delivered successfully.
