This case file contains two affidavits and a subpoena related to the charges against John Baily, Edward Bennett, Joseph Everhart, Alexander Everhart, and Lewis Everhart of failure to keep the peace and grand larceny in 1856 and 1857 in Douglas County, Kansas Territory. On May 28, 1857 Johann Egelhoff (Eaglehoff) testified to the 2nd District Court of the Kansas Territory in Lecompton that John Baily and others listed above had stolen cattle and furniture from his property near the settlement of Hickory Point in Douglas County on about August 15, 1856. Egelhoff additionally reported Baily and the others threatened to kill on May 26, 1857 if he did not leave his land.
