These seven complete and fragmented dart points were collected from an American Indian camp site in Elk county and donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1972 and 1975 by the same donor. All were manufactured on Permian chert. The top row shows three corner notched dart points, one which is complete and heat treated, a method to improve the knapping qualities of a chert which results in the pinkish color. The center row shows a dart point fragment with a contracting stem and a nearly complete dart point with an expanding stem and heat treating. The bottom row shows complete and fragmented dart points. After knapping the dart points were mounted to the dart fore shaft, and then thrown with an atlatl.
