Shown are five views of the petroglyphs at the Katzenmeier site in Ellsworth County taken in 1961, 1962 and 1979. At the site numerous glyphs, often superimposed, are located on a Dakota sandstone bluff face. The petroglyphs include "bent arrow" glyphs, anthropomorphic figures, buffalo headdress glyphs, quadrupeds (most notably is a large bison), horse glyphs, hand prints, and shield figures. In addition to natural erosion and exfoliation the site has suffered from numerous examples of modern graffiti, glyphs being filled with paint or chalked in and glyph removal.
