Starvation Peak is located on the Old Santa Fe Trail between Las Vegas, New Mexico and Santa Fe. A mythological tale claims that Spanish "settlers" had been slaughtered or starved on this butte in Spanish colonial times, however, no evidence supports this story. The name, however, remained. Louis Palenske created this photo with his Korona Panoramic View Camera while on his excursion along the Santa Fe Trail. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board.
