Louis Palenske created this photograph of Inscription Rock with his Korona Panoramic View Camera while on a photographic excursion across northern New Mexico and northern Arizona. Inscription Rock is now known as El Morro National Monument and is located in McKinley County, New Mexico. Travelers had used the towering sandstone formation as a landmark for centuries, and many carved their names into the soft stone, giving the monument its common name. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board.
