This two-page letter, dated September 14, 1887, was written by Louis Palenske of Alma, Kansas to Gus Meier of Halifax, Kansas, inviting Meier to come to Alma and learn the photography trade. In response to the letter, Meier moved to Alma and learned the photography trade from Palenske before purchasing the latter's studio. Meier lived with the Palenske family for many years. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board.
