This is a studio portrait of August Palenske of Alma, Kansas, the first white child born at Alma, Kansas Territory in 1856. He was the son of Frederick and Caroline Palenske, who immigrated to the Kansas Territory in 1855. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board.
