This is a photograph of Isaac Baxter (May 14, 1835 - April 16, 1905) the son of Isaac and Sarah Ann Baxter. He married Sarah Goodrich Simerwell (June 24,1829 - June 12, 1892), the daughter of Robert and Fanny (Goodrich) Simerwell, who helped establish the Baptist Indian mission in Shawnee County, Kansas. Sarah attended boarding school in Independence, Missouri and later attended Shurtleff College in southern Illinois. She and Elizabeth McCoy became teachers in the first Shawnee County, Kansas school for Indian and white children. Robert Simerwell had four children, William, Sarah, Ann and Elizabeth. Isaac and Sarah Ann Baxter had a son William (1859 -January 7, 1924).
