This solid shot was discovered during a metal detection survey in 2016 at the Kaw Mission in Council Grove by Kansas Historical Society archeologists and volunteers. The iron shot was for a 3-in Ordinance Rifle, sometime called a 3-in Cannon. They first came into use in 1861.
