This Cheyenne War Lance was possibly owned at one time by Cloud Chief (1850-1922), an influential Southern Cheyenne chief. It was donated in 1887 to the Kansas Historical Society. The lance was likely used for counting coup, the touching of an enemy without killing him. The lance is just over 8' long and is wrapped in red wool cloth and decorated with feathers, some of which have been stripped and curled.
