This wooden peg was recovered from the archeological monitoring at the Last Chance Store in Council Grove in 2016. It was fashioned by whittling or carving, perhaps on a handy scrap of wood from the white oak sub-family. It could have served multiple purposes: helping to keep a door latched, hammered into a wall as a coat hook or even as a rough bottle stopper. Close examination revealed that only the last half inch of the small end showed any signs of wear.
