Hand-stitched quilt. Blocks alternate between a log cabin pattern and plain squares embroidered with floral designs, birds, and animals. 17 of the plain squares are also embroidered with genealogical information. Made by Nancy Wood Wright (1797-1880?) in 1877, at which point she had outlived 15 of her 18 siblings and nine of her 11 children. Nancy Jane Wood was born in Washington County, Kentucky. She married Jonathan Wright (1783-1851), originally of Virginia and a veteran of the War of 1812, in 1815. Sometime between 1825 and 1831 the family moved from Kentucky to Owen County, Indiana. Between about 1858 and 1860 they moved again, this time to Logan County, Illinois. Three of their sons served in the Federal Army in the Civil War, with only one, Jacob, surviving. Their daughter, also Nancy Jane, and her husband, Hiram Toliver, eventually moved to Rooks County, Kansas.
