Postcard of the Kansas State Building at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. From the collection of Henry Ezra Dean (1867-?). Dean came to Kansas from Kentucky in 1885. In 1913 he was appointed by Governor Hodges to the commission for the Panama-Pacific Exposition. He represented the Governor and the State at the Exposition, and he delivered the 1913 dedication at the future site of the Kansas Building, which was constructed on the spot where the 20th Kansas Regiment had encamped prior to its departure to the Philippines. The Panama-Pacific International Exposition was held in San Francisco from February 20 to December 4, 1915 to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal.
