This fragment of a Kansas City newspaper was recovered from between the flooring at the Last Chance Store in Council Grove during the 2016 Kansas Archeology Training Program. It lists various movies that were showing at various theaters in September, 1946. Some of the movies featured stars such as Betty Grable or Lionel Barrymore, while others announce there will be cartoons and news. Some movie titles are familiar (The Last of the Mohicans), while others are less so (Tundra). The reverse shows fragmentary news of the day and advertising, including one for Schilling brand pepper. The Last Chance Store was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
