Here are three photographs of Wilfred J. (Bill) Fienhage, the son of John and Mary Vondemkamp Fienhage. Wilfred was born on a farm near Baileyville, Kansas on January 1, 1918. He enlisted in the 17th Infantry at Fort Leavenworth in August, 1936, and remained in that unit until after World War II. Fienhage served 20 years in the U.S. Army and retired as a Army Chief Wattant Officer W3. He married Rita Ann Henry, the daughter of Leo and Agnes Kelly Henry, on January 30, 1946. After retiring from the military, Wilfred and Rita moved to a farm near Elkland, Missouri. They lived there for two years before moving to Axtell, Kansas. Wilfred worked for the Baileyville Post Office and in 1969 they purchased the Royal Motel in Seneca which they operated until 1974. In June 1977, Wilfred transferred to the Seneca Post Office and worked there until August 1980 when he retired. They had six children: Carolyn (Vine), Diane (Morrow), Jean (Holthaus), Bill, Mary (Neal) and John. Wilfred died March 13, 1999 in Seneca, Kansas and Rita died in Denver, Colorado on June 11, 1987.
