These two buttons were recovered during the 2012-2013 excavations at Fool Chief's Village, a Kansa village occupied from 1830 to 1844 in Shawnee County. Spun-back buttons were used from about 1760 until the end of the Revolutionary War. They were cast with an eye set into the boss on the back and used by civilians and military alike.
