This is a photograph showing Mrs. Andrew (Marie) Schoeppel placing jars of canned vegetables and fruits on shelves in the Kansas Governor's mansion in Topeka, Kansas. During World War II, families were encouraged by the government to start victory gardens and can the produce, reducing their reliance on limited food rations. Her husband, Governor Andrew Schoeppel, a Republican from Ness City, served from January 11, 1943 to January 13, 1947.
