This photograph shows a group of people standing in front of a home constructed by students from the carpentry department of Western University in Kansas City, Kansas. Established in 1865 the school was located in the city limits of the historical town of Quindaro along the south banks of the Missouri River in Wyandotte County, Kansas. For seventy-eight years the institution provided a four year education to African American students until it closed in 1943.
