These two photographs from 1931 were taken to commemorate the 50th wedding anniversary of Swan and Maria (Mary) Burk of McPherson County. The larger photo includes members of the Burks' extended family. Standing in the back row of this photo are (l to r): Henry Burk, Martin Burk, Emma Lundquist, Helen and Verne Logbeck, and Ida and Emel Strom. Seated below them are (l to r): Frances Strom, Grace Burk, Swan and Mary Burk, and Marjorie Strom. The two small children in front are Marilyn Burk and Kenneth Swen Burk. Swan Burk emigrated from Sweden to the U.S. in 1865, and homesteaded in the New Gottland area of McPherson County in the spring of 1871. He and his brother Gust were among the earliest settlers in that part of the county.
