This photograph shows inmates Wm. V. Benson, 9250, and Joseph Butler, 8603. Wm. V. Benson was received at the Kansas State Penitentiary on March 13, 1900 from Douglas County, Kansas for obtaining property under false pretenses. Joseph Butler, also known under his alias Wm. Dwyer, was received at the penitentiary on July 1, 1898 from Montgomery County, Kansas for murder.
