This is a photograph showing Ahern who served in the 196th Field Artillery Battalion and stationed near the Demilitarized Zone after the armistice was signed. Ahern is photographed leaving evening dinner with his mess tray in his right hand, grease gun on his right shoulder, and a carton of cigarettes and bar of soap in his left hand. The photograph was taken by Frank Darrell Timken of Cimarron, Kansas.
