This is a photograph showing Howard Athon's American Eagle bi-plane at the Topeka Airport, Rooney Field in Topeka, Kansas. The American Eagle airplane was built around 1929 in Fairfax, Wyandotte County, Kansas. The airplane had a Hartzell Propeller, made in Ohio. The propeller survived a crash in 1931 and Athon kept it and the seat belt, a web mesh belt that tied, which held him in the plane and saved his life.
