This photograph shows members of the 1954 Neodesha baseball team that competed in the Southeastern Kansas Ban Johnson League. The team's coach was Kenneth Page (standing in the back row, fifth from the right). The only player identified is left-handed pitcher Ted Worthington (front row, second from the right), then of rural Lecompton and later of Tecumseh. During his high school years (1951-54), Worthington was on three state championship teams, including the 1951 Berryton High team and the 1952 and 1953 Topeka Mosby-Mack American Legion teams. In 1955 and 1956, he played for the McAlester Rockets, a minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees in the Class D Sooner State League. His minor league record was 5-10, with an ERA of 4.92. Digital reproduction of the photograph was accomplished through a joint project sponsored by the Kansas Historical Society and the Shawnee County Baseball Hall of Fame.
