This is a photograph of Paul Bailey Sweet who was born in Topeka, Kansas on February 9, 1881. Paul was the son of Timothy Bailey Sweet and Annie Eliza Brown. He graduated from Washburn College with a B.A. in 1902 and Yale University with B.A. in 1903. When he returned from Yale, he worked with his father and managed property interests. From 1905 to 1910 he was associated with Harrington Emerson as a counseling engineer for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway's motive department. In 1910-1911 he was manager of Curtis Publishing Company in Philadelphia, PA, and the following year he became chief clerk in the New York office of the Emerson Company, efficiency engineers. Later, he was promoted to manager of the New York office. In 1914 he became secretary of the Emerson Company and remained in that office until he returned to Topeka in 1920 to manage family business interests, including investments and farms. At the time of his death in 1951, he was director of the National Bank of Topeka. Sweet was chairman of the Washburn College board of trustees and served on several organizations' boards in Topeka.
