An informal portrait of astronomer Clyde William Tombaugh, 1906-1997, at age 22 with his homemade 9 inch Newtonian Telescope on his family farm near Burdett, Kansas. Tombaugh discovered the planet Pluto in 1930 and fourteen asteroids during his long career.
