The largest portion of this map shows the street lay out for Wyandotte City, Wyandotte County, Kansas Territory, and the Missouri and Kansas Rivers that impact the city. It was located on what had been the Wyandotte Reserve and three Wyandottes were part of the original town company stockholders. The map in the upper left corner shows the "Wyandott Purchase" which was the northeast corner of Kansas Territory and Wyandotte City's proximity to other communities. It also shows the Delaware Indian Reserve and Shawnee Indian lands. The map in the lower left shows the Kansas River valley from Wyandotte City to Fort Riley. Both of the smaller maps show other communities, missions, and railroad routes. The text in the upper right promotes the city's abundance of natural resources and good proximity for commerce to potential settlers. The map was prepared by John H. Millar, civil engineer, Wyandotte City, and is dated March 18, 1857. It was engraved by William Schuchman, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
