This is a mounted tintype portrait of John Johnston, older brother of William Agnew Johnston. John Johnston remained in East Oxford Township, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada, where he owned a farm. He married first in 1871 and had seven children, one of whom (Howard) also moved to Minneapolis, Kansas to join family already there. John's first wife died in 1895. In 1900, he remarried and had three more children, the eldest of whom was Harcourt Templeton Johnston.
