This emerald green taffeta jockey cap was purchased in 1937 at Bailey's Inc. in Evanston, Illinois for $3.50 or $4.50. Verna Camien wore the cap in Sun City, Kansas. An interest in horseback riding led the Camiens to purchase the cap in an attempt to emulate the clothing worn by English style riders. Western style clothing was more popular in Sun City at the time and Mr. Camien commented that their outfit selections "were not suitable to the conditions we faced and we did not realize how incongruent or non-conforming they were."
