This black and white photograph shows Patty Perry and Dorothy Piper Perry, (L to R) standing beside a WPA sign in front of the Potter High School in Potter, Kansas. The school was built during the Great Depression as a part of the Works Progress Administration program created during President Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration. The relief program, later changed to the Works Projects Administration, created jobs and income for the unemployed through a number of community works projects that ranged from the construction of public buildings to the building of highways, roads, and streets. The two-story structure is located along Kansas U.S. 74 in Atchison County, Kansas and serves today as a private residence.
