This black and white photograph shows the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company's Canyon Diablo bridge with a steam locomotive and passenger cars traveling across it. Construction on the trestle bridge began in 1880 when the Atlantic and Pacific Railway Company laid the first set of tracks from Winslow, Arizona, to Canyon Diablo. Due to a number of construction and financial difficulties, the project was temporarily put on hold until the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company took over the task of completing the structure in 1882.
