These three black and white photographs show rising flood waters to the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway bridge on the Kansas River in Topeka, Kansas. The heavy trains were positioned on the bridge to keep it stable from the rushing waters. The extremely heavy rains during June and July of 1951 caused some of the greatest flooding ever seen in Kansas history. These high waters affected all the area river basins of the Kansas, Neosho, Marais des Cygnes and Verdigris.
