In this letter to Kirke Mechem of the Kansas State Historical Society, James Anderson provides information regarding his grandfather Reverend Thomas Johnson. Anderson explains that "some time after the death of my grandfather all of his papers relating to himself and the Shawnee Mission were given to Reverend Nathan Scarritt who was to write a biography." However, Anderson states that "before this was accomplished, Dr. Scarritt's house burned and everything was lost including, I presume, his own historical records." Despite that fact, Anderson does provide a wealth of details to Mechem, which highlight Reverend Johnson and his activities.
