In this letter to Judge Ruppenthal, William K. Beach provides a first-hand account of an Indian raid that occurred in June of 1867 at Fossil Creek Station near present day Russell, Kansas. During the raid, a number of horses were scattered, a stock-tender was killed, and track graders were injured. The attack occurred along the track owned and operated by the Union Pacific Railways's Eastern Division.
