In this letter to Mr. George W. Martin of the Kansas State Historical Society, Julia A. Chase states that she has been looking over some papers and books from Mary Ann "Mother" Bickerdyke and her family. In the letter, Chase explains that some of the material concerns the Indian raid on Salina, Kansas. In addition, she also states that the Hiram mentioned in the accounts is Hiram Bickerdyke, "Mother" Bickerdyke's oldest son.
