This black and white photograph shows Luke F. Parsons. Parsons, "a soldier under John Brown", fought at the Battle of Black Jack near Baldwin City, Kansas on June 2, 1856 and later at the Battle of Osawatomie on August 30, 1856. As luck would have it, Parsons missed the attack on October 16, 1859 at the federal arsenal in Harpers Ferry Virginia that lead to the convection and death by hanging of abolitionist John Brown. Prior to the attack Parsons had return to the Kansas territory.
