This black and white print was copied from "Topeka: its business and its beauties as seen through the camera", cover title "Picturesque Topeka souvenir gems as seen through the camera." A.C. Klingaman, a Topeka druggist, collected and arranged the contents in the book. This photograph shows the House of Representatives in Topeka, Kansas. Built in 1879 as part of the west wing of the capitol, the chamber features plaster columns with a pink marble appearance and twenty-four karat gold leaf trim. Above the Speaker of the House's desk, is a mural painted by E.S. Miragoli and Company of St. Louis, Missouri entitled "law". Today 125 members of the Kansas House of Representatives occupy this chamber when the legislature is in session.
