Joseph Pierce enlisted in the Army (Infantry)on December 7, 1942, and served until January 9, 1946, in the 3rd Battalion, Company L. He was interviewed by Suzette McCord-Rogers and Peggy Stanton on Jan 27, 2007. Pierce was sent to Europe in October 1944 and landed on Omaha Beach. He served on the front lines in Northern France, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and later was located in Czechoslovakia. He was born in Atchison, Kansas, on November 6, 1923. He worked in a number of jobs after the war, primarily in northeast Kansas. He used the G. I. Bill for some training and he ultimately repaired televisions. The 2005 Kansas Legislature passed a bill funding the WWII Veterans Oral History grant program. This transcript is from one of the nine community institutions that received these grants. The transcript from the interview is presented here; the original video copy of the interview is available through the Doniphan County Historical Society (Troy) and through the Kansas State Historical Society.
