This is a portrait of James Charles Slattery who served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1973-1979. From 1983-1995, he served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Kansas' second Congressional district. He served on the House Energy & Commerce, Veterans' Affairs, Budget, and Banking Committees. In 1994, he ran for Governor of Kansas but lost the election to William Preston "Bill" Graves. In 2008, he made a bid for the U.S. Senate seat held by Senator Pat Roberts, (R-KS). He lost that election.
