Rifle made by gunsmith J.W.H. Golden in 1862 while superintendent of the Fort Leavenworth Arsenal. Golden settled in Leavenworth, Kansas Territory, in October, 1854 and was shot by border ruffians near Tonganoxie on September 6, 1856. The bullet remained in his throat until his death in 1894. He was elected sheriff of Leavenworth County in 1858, and commissioned by James W. Denver.
