This is a formal studio portrait of the members of an Emporia, Kansas, baseball team dressed in long coats and top hats. They were called the "Champions of Kansas." Members of the team: (1) Fran Miller, Umpire; (2) W. Irvin, treasurer; (3) E. Ateyes, shortstop; (4) O. M. Wilhite, right field; (5) Charles Evans, pitcher; (6) John Rooks, left field; (7) V. Passington, first base; (8) H. Thomas, scorer; (9) J. Patterson, center field; (10) W. O. Jones, second base; (11) Frank Randolph, pitcher; (12) J. H. Gabriel, third base; (13) Frank Varvel, catcher; and (14) Skeeter, a young boy who was the team mascot.
