View of the classic Carnegie style Leavenworth Public Library located at the corner of 5th and Walnut Streets in Leavenworth, Kansas. Built in 1900 with funds that included a $25,000 pledge from Andrew Carnegie, the library featured the formal entrance and staircase, common to most Carnegie libraries, symbolizing the visitor's elevation to knowledge. Leavenworth was one of the first five cities in Kansas to receive a Carnegie library.
