Nels Ferguson, a Swedish immigrant, used this level in his work as a stonemason. He was involved in the construction of the Kansas Statehouse and the Topeka State Hospital. Ferguson later settled with his family in Richland Township in Jewell County, Kansas. He used his stonemason tools in the construction of his stone farmstead, Rock Hill Farm.

The three and a half story native limestone structure was built in 1875 by abolitionist Orlo H. Drinkwater and his partner Peter Paul Schriver along the Cottonwood River. For a number of years flour was milled from the facility until operations came to a close in the early 1940s. In 2006, the site was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places.

Twenty-one photographs showing the E. W. Norris service station under construction and following completion. Norris hired Frank A. Slack, Beloit, Kansas, to design the service station and Charles Eby to work on the interior. It was built in 1926 with native limestone quarried near Glen Elder, Kansas. The service station is located at the southeast corner of Market and Main Streets in Glen Elder. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
