Farmers Educational and Co-operative Union in Topeka, Kansas
Creator: Spicer & Bumbarger
Date: February 03, 1915
This is a panoramic photograph of the Farmers Educational and Co-operative Union posed on the steps of the Kansas statehouse in Topeka, Kansas. Most of the people in the photograph are men but there are a few women and children. The organization, often called the Farmers Union, was founded in Point, Texas, in 1902 and is now headquartered in Washington, D.C. The organization's mission is to protect and enhance the economic well-being and quality of life for family farmers and ranchers and their rural communities. It does this by promoting legislation and education beneficial to farmers and by developing cooperative buying and selling methods and businesses. It is the second largest general farm organization in the country, after Farm Bureau.
